What is metabolism? Everyday you have been hearing about this word metabolism. It’s on health channels, fitness magazines, health articles everywhere and also discussion among friends. But what actually is metabolism and how can it really contribute to fat loss?

Definition of metabolism

Metabolism is a chemical process that occurs in our body in order to maintain life. In a nutshell, this chemical process requires calories. Calories are used to sustain the functions of the body like organs, muscles and stuff like that. If we are able to increase metabolism in our body we can really lose body fat fast because the calories usage by body is higher by not doing anything! The calorie usage comes from the chemical process mentioned.

Back to the equation of weight loss, if calories out are more than calories in, weight loss occurs. So, by increasing metabolism, we can actually increase the calories out without doing additional activities and losing body fat without starving ourselves!

There are some that you can eat to speed up metabolism. You are what you eat. Your body is a very complex system. You have to feed with proper foods and with the right proportions to make its engine running at tiptop shape. Eating simple carbs and junk food will just send you metabolism crashing down but eating low GI carbs, green tea and coffee will boost your metabolism.





Exercise, the metabolism booster!

One of the best ways to speed up metabolism is through exercising. During exercise, your body is been stressed which results in muscles, tissues, joints, the heart, lungs and such being challenged. Your body will need lots of calories in order to repair them.

More over, the more lean muscle mass you build on your body, the more calories your body will need to keep those muscle. This is another crucial and fantastic way to increase your calorie output!

In conclusion, don’t go for quick slim dieting. Do not try to over exercise and get on a crash diet because you will just ruin your metabolism and you will just regain back any fat loss you enjoyed.
